ABSTRACT OF FORUM OF MADRID CONFERENCE
"CRISIS? What crisis in education?"
Tuesday the 28th April and Wednesday the 29th April of 2009
The celebrated conference they had a high inscription and the real participation was more than 100 assistants, which
reflects the interest of the subject proposed among the different educational responsible people: inspectors, directors
and members of managerial other school leaders, associations and educational entities and teaching staff.
They opened the conference for Álvaro Marchesi, General Secretary of the Organization of Iberoamericans
States, Charo Díaz , General Director manager of the "Home and of the Employee" Foundation, and the President
of the FEAE of Madrid, Manuel Méndez, like organizer.
Angel Martinez, professor of Applied Economics in Complutense University of Madrid (UCM), indicates that the
absence of regulation of the market is the idea that "it is possible to become rich, simply scrolling the money"
(neoliberal entrepreneurial spirit, is not any other thing). We should learn for the future that there can not be
"public inhibition" in the control of the financial market. From the Education a real critical spirit has to be
fostered in the society, to consider that the citizen is not a user, he is the subject of the education. There is not
sincere speech without resources, and in this aspect the Spanish society has a deficit of sincerity with the education.
Jaime Mayor, Eurodeputy, argued that besides a financial crisis, we have to refer to a previous moral crisis,
without the which the globalization of the current crisis can not be explained. He thinks that we live a crisis of
"decency", especially for having made happy all of them by living above our real possibilities.
Finally, the Conference ended with a Round Table about "Consequences of the crisis in the education"
formed for: Glòria Arredondo, Director of the Institute of Innovation and Educational Development (OEI);
Xurxo Torres, Professor of Didactics and School Organization (Coruña University) and Javier Cortés, General
Director of S. M. Editions.
